The room corner test is the most realistic fire test used in Australian building compliance and one of the most commonly misunderstood at the audit level. Group Numbers get applied to products installed in configurations that differ from what was tested. ASEA smoke results are missing from reports submitted for NCC compliance. Cone calorimeter reports with explicit “do not use for Group Number” disclaimers get submitted and accepted. Foreign room corner test results arrive without the Alternative Solution documentation that makes them legally valid in Australia.

The 16 gap items are colour-flagged throughout: Group Number 4 as an explicit NCC non-compliant result, ASEA and SMOGRARC as separate mandatory NCC smoke metrics, the cone calorimeter alternative pathway with both mandatory statement checks built in, the cold trap temperature specification (0–5°C) affecting gas analyser accuracy, the annular sampling probe position (685mm from the hood), the T90 ≤3 second optical smoke response time, and the gas analyser ranges (O₂ 0–25%, CO₂ 0–10%, CO 0–1%) that most calibration audits never verify.

The ISO/IEC 17025 calibration register is a dedicated tab with 14 instruments: thermocouples, all three gas analysers, mass flow controller, exhaust duct flow probe, smoke optical system, heat flux meter, cold trap controller, conditioning chamber, DAQ system validation, and calibration gas certificates — each with its own interval, last calibration date, next due date, calibration body, and certificate number field. Expired calibrations highlight red. Due-within-30-days highlights amber.

The checklist also includes rows for raw emissions data: CO, CO₂, O₂ yields, E factor validation, SPR, ASEA, SMOGRARC, ISO 19702 toxicant sampling, and LCA data retention because this test generates sustainability data that has value well beyond NCC classification, and auditors need to be able to verify it’s captured and stored correctly.
